The Path from SM to RTE

  1. Build multi-team experience: Work across 2–3 Scrum teams simultaneously, ideally in a SAFe ART structure.
  2. Get SAFe SSM or CREA-SM: Establish your Scrum Master credibility at an enterprise level.
  3. Complete SAFe RTE training: 5-day Scaled Agile course (£495 exam, training typically £1,500–£2,000 additional).
  4. Facilitate at least one PI Planning: Even shadowing a PI Planning cycle gives you what most SM candidates lack.
  5. Target ART Coach or Agile Coach roles as an interim step if direct RTE is competitive.
